nowBuzz up!CHARLOTTE — Two business leaders with Triad ties were among six founding members named to the Carolinas Entrepreneur Hall of Fame, sponsored by the McColl School of Business atQueens University.
They were Tom Davis, a founder, chairman and chief executive of Piedmont Aviation Inc.; and R.J. Reynolds, the founder of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. The other members were William Belk of Belk Inc., James Edgar “Ed” Broyhill of Broyhill Furniture Industries, James Duke of Duke Power Co., and Leroy Springs of Springs Cotton Mills. All were honored posthumously at a dinner yesterday.
Honorees were recognized for the scope of their impact on the region’s economy and their community service and civic engagement.
The college also inducted several living honorees: Ralph Ketner, the founder of Food Lion; Leon Levine, the founder of Family Dollar Stores; and Jerry Richardson, the founder of Spartan Foods and the owner of theCarolina Panthers.
